On this special edition of the AC, an interview with author and former MTV programmer Courtney E. Smith. Her debut book Record Collecting for Girls: Unleashing Your Inner Music Nerd, One Album At A Time (out today on Mariner Books) takes a sharp and humorous look at the music world from the rarely heard female perspective -- guilty pleasure bands, creating playlists, curating a record collection and more.
Our interview took place over a choppy, but decent enough Skype connection, where Courtney discussed a variety of topics from her book, including The Go Go's, 1982's Valley Girl and why she won't date guys who are "too into" The Smiths. On yeah...she also offers up an epic classic alternative playlist for the uninitiated.
We met Courtney several years ago when we were doing Alternative Classix Live on Second Life. We adore her and basically implore you to drop what you're doing now and buy her book.
